Unstern!

site specific video animation, digital photo montages
2008

"Unstern!" was created in the framework of TanzMedienAkademie Weimar in 2008. A gigantic hall once used for livestock auctions offered the only fixed parameters for an interdisciplinary project between dance, performance, fine art and media art. The video was projected during the performance in this location. The title refers to Franz Liszt's piano piece "Unstern" Sinistre, disastro" which was probably composed in the year of his death 1886, a dark piano piece full of dissonances. The bodies of the dancers move in the video along the floor of the sparse hall or along its metal supports, they pass by in a quick horizontal movement while the original space shifts in layers, moving together and apart. Space, performance and its media translations generate a dystopic scenario on various layers of reality accompanied by Constantin Popp's threatening soundtrack.
